  40. question regarding the cable from the Mac to the  TNC.."Can I use the 
  41. same type of cable I use for the telephone modem or do I need a special 
  42. type just for this purpose'?"  I am using a KPC-3 with a Mac with 
  43. Hostmaster Sofeware...Thanks for taking time to read this..Jeff

  60.   Your modem cable should work fine. The only issue would be whether
  61. Hostmaster needs hardware handshaking or not. I think it does. If so
  62. you would be best to use a "High speed" modem cable, which just means
  63. it has the hardware handshaking lines in it.

  110. Does anybody happen to know the cable configuration to hook the 
  111. PacComm Micropower-2 (it's basically the Tiny-2 TNC) to the
  112. Realistic HTX-202?  I picked one up cheap, but it was without
  113. any docs (the TNC).  I've ordered them, but would sorta like to
  114. get on the air ASAP--dunno when everything'll be coming in.  Also,
  115. if you have an online version of the command set, I'd be obliged.

  124. Hello,  I was wondering if anyone has tried (or preferably has a list)
  125. of the packet to Internet gateways that seem to exist.

  132. and several others, some go up and down!

  134. will give a login. The ke9yq one allows anonymous login and appears to
  135. let to AX.25 and NET/ROM out on amateur packet! (You need to register
  136. to do this.)

  138. Access to far off BBS's and chat nodes would become far easier if more
  139. gates like these were known of. The current method for me is four or five
  140. node hops across the UK to the LONNY wormhole, so I can then connect out 
  141. to the USA, but this is so SLLLOOOWWW and unrealiable.  It is the same sor
  142. sort of route for the International Chat node, and I would like to be able
  143. to chat to amateurs wordwide without all of that hassle!

  161.   I recently completed testing a TI-DSK DSP  module  running
  162.   the exciting new HB9JNX software, "TERM".
  163.  
  164.   When transmitting a CQ in FEC mode the actual  signal  had
  165.   ARQ timing and sounded like a QSO instead of the more fam-
  166.   iliar higher speed stream of AMTOR and PacTOR FEC sigs.  A
  167.   contact  in  FEC  mode QSO on 20M confirmed that it looked
  168.   and sounded very strange to K7RD.
  169.  
  170.   I inquired with the author, Tom Sailer, and  he  responded
  171.   that  the DSP based code was operating AS IT SHOULD - i.e.
  172.   per the SCS specification.  He further asserted  that  the
  173.   ARQ timing (chirp...chirp...chirp..) enabled the listening
  174.   station to actually SYNCHRONIZE with  the  CQ  instead  of
  175.   just  hoping to catch a strong enough sig and see what was
  176.   being xmitted.
  177.  
  178.   This is the first time I encountered this issue. All other
  179.   PacTOR  stations  that  I  have worked used the stream FEC
  180.   mode.  I have not worked an SCS equipped station and can't
  181.   verify that they operate in this same manner. Would anyone
  182.   care to comment on this. If SYNCHRONIZATION is the  proper
  183.   method,  then  why haven't other TNC mfgrs used that tech-
  184.   nique ?

  186.   I think that because I have been trained to listen for the
  187.   stream  FEC I simply bypass those stations that sound like
  188.   ARQ mode xmissions. This means that if  I  heard  the  ARQ
  189.   rythm  I  would assume that due to propagation  I couldn't
  190.   hear the other station and move on. As an xmitting station
  191.   I wonder if I would ever get an answer to my CQ :?)

  218. Having recently done several diff. IF interfaces, my guess is you have
  219. an impedance mismatch between your discriminator and the front end of
  220. the 9600 modem. You should be connecting on the side of the
  221. discriminator that leads to the AF section. Try a 5 MFD non-polarized
  222. capacitor in series with the modem and the IF.
  223.  
  224. This particular problem has driven me nuts several times. While the
  225. modem mfg. will claim that his modem has a very high impedance IC (like
  226. a TL082) as the frontend, you will notice that they often use a 5-10K
  227. resistor as a pull up curcuit on the input side of the TL082. This
  228. completely drives the discriminator curcuit to zero. You need to
  229. eliminate that DC component.
